Greenrock Superintendent Wins CFAA Resident Manager of the Year Award

TORONTO, May 5th, 2021 – Alex Falcon is a well-known face to many residents at Greenrock’s Davisville Village Community and is a fantastic example of the impact a strong work ethic and a positive attitude can have. Alex has been working with Greenrock as a superintendent at 45 Balliol St. in Toronto for the past five years and was announced as the winner of the Canadian Federation of Apartment Association’s Resident Manager of the Year Award at the virtual ceremony on Wednesday, May 5th.

Alex went above and beyond his job duties this past year by stepping up to take care of the building while a fellow superintendent was ill. Taking on the role of his main caregiver and friend, Alex brought his colleague to appointments all while working overtime to ensure residents needs were met. Around this same time, another Greenrock team member went on short-term leave and Alex juggled the duties of three superintendents with an impressive amount of gusto.

“We are so pleased to have Alex on our team and hope to have him with us for many years to come,” says Greenrock COO Justin Taylor. “A work ethic like his is a rare gem in this industry.”

There have been many occasions where Alex has gone out his way to help a resident while off duty. If he is out walking his dog and he sees a resident struggling with their key fob or looking for directions, he will stop what he is doing to help.

Alex has done a spectacular job at maintaining the property throughout the pandemic and thanks to his efforts, there were no outbreaks in the building.

On top of Alex’s win, Greenrock was also announced as the winner of the CFAA Rental Housing Provider of the Year Award at the virtual broadcast in recognition of its outstanding response to the pandemic.

Greenrock Awarded 2021 CFAA Rental Housing Provider of the Year

TORONTO, May 5th, 2021  Greenrock was announced as the winner of the 2021 CFAA Rental Housing Provider of the Year Award for its remarkable and multi-faceted approach to supporting residents and community members during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Greenrock won the award within the under 15,000 units category, alongside Drewlo Lifestyle Apartments. The announcement was made at the sixth annual Canadian Federation of Apartment Associations’ Rental Housing Awards program, which was broadcasted virtually on Tuesday, May 4th, 2021.

“It’s an incredible honour for Greenrock to be recognized as the CFAA Rental Housing Provider of the Year. Our team thanks everyone who made this award possible, including our valued residents for continuing to make Greenrock their home during the pandemic,” says Barry Green, CEO of Greenrock.

Greenrock owns and manages two prominent residential communities in the heart of Toronto, including Davisville Village just steps from Davisville Station and Village Green near Church and Wellesley. Greenrock created a unique COVID-19 Relief Fund at the start of the pandemic, which has since grown to $3.5 million and includes the following support measures:

  • Donations to over 40 Canadian charities addressing food security, mental health, BIPOC communities, LGBTQ2S communities, senior care, shelters and outreach support, and women’s health
  • All Greenrock-managed suites each received a total of $600 in grocery gift cards to help with household expenses between April and December 2020
  • A last month’s rent program whereby residents can use their last month’s rent as a credit towards upcoming rent payments
  • Significant discounts and interest-free payment plans for residents who are experiencing financial challenges and have outstanding arrears

Greenrock continues to show compassion towards those living within its buildings and takes a supportive approach by offering the above measures and working with residents individually to address financial challenges.

In response to the third wave of the virus, Greenrock’s charitable arm, Greenrock IMPACT, is in the process of researching and carefully vetting charities that are slated to receive the remaining $1 Million of funding. The next wave of donations will be announced in the coming weeks.

Greenrock Sells Wingreen Community, Makes Room for Future Growth

TORONTO, April 7, 2021 -– Greenrock announced today that it successfully closed on the sale of Wingreen Court, Don Mills.

Located at Lawrence and Don Mills, the properties include 2-11 Wingreen Court and were purchased by Northbridge Capital Acquisitions. The transaction closed in March 2021.

“Built in 1955 and managed by our company ever since, Wingreen Court was an important legacy asset for us. The building was built during the first wave of low-rise construction across Don Mills, fostered by our founder Al Green,” says Barry Green, Greenrock Chief Executive Officer.

Al Green, with his partners, built over 10,000 Toronto apartment units over the next 3 decades.

“After careful consideration, we decided that transacting this asset would best allow us to focus on other Greenrock assets including our Davisville Village and Village Green communities,” explains Barry.

Barry and the Greenrock team thanks everyone who made the closing of this sale possible.
